Most scrunchies are made with synthetic fibres and petroleum-based elastic. They may look harmless, but they can take decades (or longer) to break down and often shed microplastics as they age.
The SAGE Biodegradable Scrunchie was created as a slow fashion alternative, a thoughtfully made accessory using natural materials, designed to biodegrade rather than linger.
Because sustainability should include the smaller things too.

Outer:
Liberty of London Tana Lawn 100% cotton, printed in Liberty’s Printing Mill in northern Italy. The cotton fibre used in Tana Lawn is grown in India, Egypt and US.
Inner core:
Organic cotton elastic cord – 40% organic cotton / 60% natural rubber, OEKO TEX: VN010 233364 and EU Reach compliant. Biodegradable, Compostable natural fibres produced ethically in the EU. Country of Origin – Austria.
Thread:
100% cellulose thread – (Celofil #40 (Tencel). 100% Tencel by Lensing. OEKO TEX #3092CIT CITEVE. Country of Origin – Portugal.
