RHS Business Directory Breakfast

Supporting Local Businesses: Celebrating the RHS Business Directory Launch

Last Friday morning I had the pleasure of attending the RHS Business Breakfast to celebrate the launch of their new RHS Business Directory. It was a warm and welcoming event that brought together local businesses and members of the wider RHS community.

As the founder of Beautiful Benevolence, much of my work takes place quietly behind the scenes, designing garments, sewing accessories, writing about sustainability and sharing the story behind the materials I choose. So it was genuinely refreshing to step away from the sewing table for a morning and spend time connecting with other small business owners.

Events like this are a gentle reminder that while running a business can sometimes feel solitary, we are all part of a much wider community.

A Directory Supporting Both Business and Opportunity

The launch of the RHS Business Directory is about more than simply listing local businesses. The initiative also supports the RHS Centennial Bursary Campaign, helping to create opportunities for students within the RHS community.

Thanks to the generosity of the businesses involved, the directory has already helped raise nearly £3,000 for the campaign.

Being included in the directory is something I am very proud of, not only because it introduces Beautiful Benevolence to a wider audience, but also because it contributes to a cause that supports future generations.

Why Supporting Local Businesses Matters

Choosing to support local businesses has a ripple effect that extends far beyond a single purchase.

When we choose independent brands, we help strengthen our communities, encourage craftsmanship, and support businesses that often prioritise care, quality and sustainability over mass production.

For me, supporting local businesses also aligns closely with the values behind Beautiful Benevolence.

I choose natural fibres and carefully sourced materials and aim to design garments and accessories that are biodegradable and made to last. By focusing on thoughtful design and sustainable materials, Beautiful Benevolence hopes to create pieces that people truly value rather than quickly replace.

Small businesses thrive when communities support them, and events like the RHS Business Breakfast help foster those connections.

A Lovely Morning of Community and Connection

The breakfast itself was a lovely opportunity to meet other local entrepreneurs, share stories about our businesses and celebrate the launch of the directory together.

The RHS Futures and Alumni team created a welcoming atmosphere that made it easy to connect with others who are equally passionate about the work they do.

Moments like this remind me that building a business is not just about selling products, it is also about building relationships, supporting initiatives that matter and contributing positively to the community around us.
