There was a time when I stood in front of a wardrobe full of clothes and quietly thought,
“I have nothing to wear.”
It wasn’t really true, of course.
The wardrobe was full.
But so many of those clothes came with conditions.
Some no longer fitted comfortably.
Some only worked with certain shoes.
Some were the wrong colour for what I wanted to wear that day.
Some belonged to another season.
Some I simply never reached for anymore.
Around the same time, I remembered the 30 Wears campaign, which encouraged us to ask whether we’d wear a garment at least thirty times before buying it.
It made perfect sense.
Yet I realised something.
The reason I wasn’t wearing many of my clothes wasn’t because I didn’t care about sustainability.
It was because they made everyday dressing more complicated than it needed to be.
So I began asking a different question.
What would happen if one skirt quietly solved all of those little problems?
What if it could adapt as life changes?
What if it could still fit comfortably if my body changed?
What if it offered two different looks instead of one?
What if it worked just as happily with sandals on a summer afternoon as it did with wellington boots in the garden, trainers on an ordinary day or boots in winter?
What if getting dressed became simple again?
That was the beginning of SARA.
Sustainable. Adaptable. Reversible. Adjustable.
She wasn’t designed to become another skirt in the wardrobe.
She was designed to become the one that’s reached for again and again.
The one that quietly earns its place.
The one that makes ordinary mornings feel a little easier.
At Beautiful Benevolence, we often talk about buying less and loving more.
SARA is our way of putting that belief into practice.
Perhaps the most sustainable garment isn’t the one with the longest list of eco-credentials.
Perhaps it’s the one you genuinely want to wear, over and over again.
Because favourite clothes are the ones that tell our stories.
And those are the clothes worth making.
